It has been bought to our attention that some parents are parking in none parking zones which are required to stay empty in case of emergencies. Please can we respect the rules of the car park by parking in allocated parking areas and observing the speed limit of 5 mph. Please also back into spaces at pick up time, so that you have better visability when leaving the car park at a time when there are likely to be more children about.

We would therefore ask that you send messages either directly to your class teacher via Seesaw or email the office at admin@colwall.hereford.sch.uk. We will endeavour to respond to your messages within 2 working days.

Thank you so much to Ralph who bought in some of his collection of animals. We had a great time analysing them and classifying them based on their characteristics and identifying their scientific species.

Snapshot of the Week

Forest School โ€“ A Week of Adventure, Teamwork and Discovery!

What an action-packed week we have had in Forest School! From muddy puddles and minibeast hunting to compass games, soil investigations and teamwork challenges, there has been something for everyone.

Nursery have continued exploring our Forest School site, making big marks on the chalkboard, hunting for minibeasts and enjoying lots of rolling and slithering down the hills. Most importantly, they have been making wonderful memories!

Wrens have been enjoying The Gruffalo, building homes for the different characters and creating their own obstacle courses. They have also been learning how to carry sticks safely and had great fun making streams and jumping in muddy puddles!

Year 1 have been developing their map skills through compass games, learning about North, East, South and West. They then created maps of Forest School and designed treasure maps for their friends. We also explored the idea that treasure means different things to different people โ€“ from rubies and diamonds to family, friendship and the natural world.

Years 2 & 3 have been focusing on teamwork. Through team games, giant obstacle courses, human knots and problem-solving challenges, they explored what makes a successful team and how we can work together towards a shared goal.

Year 4 explored sportsmanship and fairness, thinking about how games can be made fair or unfair. Using limited resources, they worked together to transport water without moving as a team. They discovered that it wasn’t how much water reached the end that mattered โ€“ it was how effectively they worked together.

Year 5 became soil scientists! They investigated what soil is made of, used flow charts to identify different soil types and explored filtration, sediments and how soil reacts and changes when mixed with water.

Directors

Year 6 took on the challenge of working together to move โ€œtoxic wasteโ€ (tennis balls) to a safe zone using only ropes and a bungee cord and a bucket. They also tackled a blindfolded challenge to create a square using one long piece of rope โ€“ testing their communication, trust and teamwork.

It has been fantastic to see children across the school communicating, collaborating, taking risks, solving problems and learning from the natural world.

Another brilliant week of Forest School adventures!

๐ŸŒฟ Forest School Donations ๐ŸŒฟ

We are always looking for ways to enhance our Forest School provision and would be very grateful for any donations of natural or reusable materials that families may have available.

In particular, we are currently looking for:

๐Ÿชต Lightweight pallets
๐Ÿ“ฆ Pallet crates or wooden crates
๐ŸŒฒ Pinecones
๐ŸŒฐ Conkers
๐Ÿ‚ Other natural treasures that could be used for exploring, creating and learning outdoors.

These materials will be used by the children for building, imaginative play, den making, natural art, investigations and Forest School challenges.

If you have anything you think might be useful, please send it into school or speak to the Forest School team.

Thank you for helping us make our Forest School space a wonderful place to explore, create and connect with nature.

School Admissions

We warmly invite prospective parents and families to attend our Open Mornings on Wednesday 14th October and Wednesday 18th November from 9.30 – 11am. This is a wonderful opportunity to look around the school, meet our staff, and gain a real insight into school life. Our Year 6 Directors will be leading guided tours, while members of staff will be available throughout the morning to answer any questions you may have. We particularly welcome parents of children starting Reception in September 2027, as well as families considering transferring into other year groups. Parents are welcome to attend on their own or bring their child along if they wish. Please spread the word to family and friends.
