Key Information

  • Lunches – School lunches have now been ordered for the first week back after half term. If you missed the booking deadline, please send your child in with a packed lunch. Thank you for your support with this.
  • Illness – If your child is unwell and unable to attend school, please contact the School Office before 9am, every day that your child is absent from School or Nursery. If you child has had sickness or diarrhea, they will need to remain off school for 48 hours from the last bout.
  • Late arrivals – We have noticed that there are several children repeatedly arriving late to school. School start time is at 8.45am, by which time children should be in their classrooms ready to start the day and already engaging in early morning learning. Late arrivals cause disruption to other pupils and can be unsettling.

Wrens have been learning about the Spanish artist, Joan Miro. We created some fabulous pieces inspired by his work. We chose watercolour paints to make a wash, then let our imaginations flow with line drawing. Finally, we used wax crayon to add further colour. Our Wrens are very proud of themselves!

Year 6 ended their gymnastics unit with a session developing their confidence, balance and agility using a variety of equipment. They were excellent coaches, supporting each other to learn new skills and challenge themselves. Well done Year 6!

Colwall and Safeguarding

At Colwall CofE Primary School & Nursery, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is our highest priority. We are committed to creating a safe, supportive and nurturing environment where all pupils feel listened to, valued and protected. Our safeguarding practice is fully aligned with Keeping Children Safe in Education and local safeguarding procedures. All staff receive regular safeguarding training and are vigilant in identifying and responding to concerns promptly. We work proactively to support children and families through early intervention and close monitoring of wellbeing, attendance and behaviour. Where concerns arise, these are recorded, reviewed and acted upon swiftly, with robust systems in place to ensure continuity of safeguarding during transitions and when pupils move in or out of school.

We work closely with the Herefordshire Safeguarding Children Partnership (HSCP) and follow local safeguarding thresholds and procedures to ensure children receive the right support at the right time. Guidance for professionals and families can be accessed at:
https://hscp.herefordshire.gov.uk

Where concerns meet safeguarding or child protection thresholds, we work with Herefordshire Children’s Services through the Children’s Help and Advice Team (CHAT), which is the single point of contact for safeguarding concerns:
https://www.herefordshire.gov.uk/children-and-families/child-protection

We also signpost families to wider support services including Early Help, mental health services, domestic abuse support and online safety guidance. Parents and carers can access trusted advice and support through:

By working in partnership with families, external agencies and local safeguarding services, Colwall CofE Primary School & Nursery ensures that safeguarding is a shared responsibility and that children’s safety, welfare and wellbeing remain at the centre of everything we do.

What to Do If You’re Worried About a Child

If you are worried about a child’s safety or wellbeing:

  • Contact the school immediately and speak to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or a member of the safeguarding team.
  • Do not promise confidentiality to a child who shares a concern.
  • Record concerns promptly and factually, including dates, times and what was said.
  • If a child is in immediate danger, contact the police on 999.
  • If you are unable to contact the school and remain concerned, contact Herefordshire Children’s Help and Advice Team (CHAT):
    https://www.herefordshire.gov.uk/children-and-families/child-protection

Children can also seek support themselves by contacting Childline on 0800 1111 or visiting https://www.childline.org.uk.

We have got free learn to ride sessions at Riverside Primary School during February half term for children aged 5+.

Children will need to bring along their own bikes and helmets.
